Sendero Luminoso remains as strong today as it did eight years ago. The only difference between now and then, is that their actions are less obvious and more subdued. Although most of the violence ended with the capture of Dr. Guzman in 1992, the Fujimori government was still looking to eliminate the final remnates of the group in October 2000.
They have named 2050, as the symbolic year in which Sendero Luminoso will control the power in Peru. This shows, not only that Sendero continues to fight today, but plans to continue fighting until they have reached their goals.
