Note: Except for the total population figures, the 1950 census divided the population by ethnic groups, but the division is roughly equal to a rural/urban division. The urban population for the "Cabecera Cantonal Cayambe" is defined as the population of the city of Cayambe, and the rural population is the area outside of the city of Cayambe but within the limits of the urban parroquias of Cayambe, Ayora, and Montalvo. The urban population of the rural parroquias is defined as that within the city limits of the parish seat.
