Here are some common questions that are debated among many environmental groups concerning the rainforests of Latin America.
Question 1
Should foreign countries, such as the United
States, interfere with local government decisions about rainforests?
*The Sierra
Club believes that the United States and Canada should develop policies
that would
give assistance to nations in Latin America
with rainforests in order to teach them the proper
management and conservation of these areas.
*Many others feel that the U.S. has a responsibility
to share its technology and money to research
projects that are designed to benefit
the rainforests.
Question 2
Should tourism be limited in the rainforests?
*It is the common belief that many areas of tropical
rainforests should be set aside as national
parks or reserves. This would allow
for the emergence of better forms of scientific research
and educational programs to teach people
about the fragility of the environment and of its
importance to the world.
Question 3
Should private corporations regulate themselves
on how their operations impact the rainforests? Or should governments
be more involved in providing guidelines or alternatives?
*As in question 1, many feel that it is the duty
of countries such as the United States to give their
input in the decision making processes
when it comes to the environments such as the
rainforests. These are delicate
areas that should be treated as such.
