EL DIRECTORIO DE ECUATORIANISTA DE LASA (Latin American Studies Asociation) CONSIDERANDO QUE:

El día Sábado cinco de Marzo el rector de la Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, doctor Enrique Ayala Mora, sufrió un atentado contra su vida

Que este hecho se enmarca entre otros atentados a la vida y al derecho inalienable de la libre expresión democrática en el país

Que el Dr. Ayala Mora como ciudadano y miembro de la comunidad académica nacional e internacional tiene derechos a la libertad de expresión, pensamiento y critica

RESUELVE

Condenar este atentado a la vida e integridad como una manifestación antidemocrática y de irrespeto a los Derechos Humanos individuales y colectivos en el Ecuador

Expresar nuestro sentimiento de solidaridad con el Dr. Enrique Ayala Mora

Pedir al Gobierno del Presidente Lucio Gutiérrez, que como Estado Parte de la Convención Americana sobre Derechos Humanos haga cumplir estos derechos e imponga justicia al investigar y responsabilizar a los autores de este delito, no solo contra la vida sino contra el convivir democrático y pruralista nacional

Pedir a la Comisión Interamericana de Derechos Humanos (CIDH) de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA) que exija medidas para que situaciones de violencia no se sigan dando en el país.

THE BOARD OF THE ECUATORIANISTAS OF LASA (Latin American Studies Asociation) CONSIDERING THAT: 

On Saturday March 5 the rector of the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, doctor Enrique Ayala Mora, suffered an attack against his life 

That this fact took place in the context of other attacks on the life and the inalienable right of free democratic expression in the country 

That Dr. Ayala Mora as a citizen and member of the national and international academic community has rights to the freedom of speech, thought and criticism 

RESOLVES 

To condemn this attack on life and integrity as an antidemocrat act against individual and collective Human Rights in Ecuador 

To express our solidarity with Dr. Enrique Ayala Mora 

To request that the Government of the President Lucio Gutiérrez, as a signature to the American Convention on Human Rights, guarantees these rights and ensures that those responsible for the crime against life and the democratic institutions of the country are brought to justice

To request that the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights (CIDH) of the Organization of  American States (OAS) demand action to end the situation of violence in the country.
